about new york orthopedic massage (NYOM)
NYOM was established in 2005 to promote a more comprehensive style of bodywork that can help those in pain as well as correct conditions before postural patterns lead to the chronic distortions that eventually become pain.
Kiambu Dickerson is a New York State Licensed Massage Therapist (l.m.t.). He is a graduate of the Swedish Institute where he received an Associates Degree in Occupational Studies. He has over ten years of massage experience and has advanced certifications in orthopedic massage and myoskeletal alignment techniques having studied directly with James Waslaski, Erik Dalton and Tom Myers, Internationally recognized pain and structural experts. Kiambu practices three days a week in a Chelsea, New York office which also boasts two chiropractors, an acupuncturist and a craniosacral practitioner. Kiambu is committed to helping his clients understand and recover from their conditions, chronic pain, or injuries.
Each of his clients plays a key role in his or her own healing process and will be given the tools and instruction to aid them in obtaining the self-empowerment to maintain a pain-free lifestyle.
His bodywork is based on the idea that while we can focus on a hurt knee or a "bad" back, people are not their symptoms. The work is aimed at balancing muscles, releasing pressure on joints and reorganizing the tissues that distort posture and create chronic pain. He also emphasizes establishing a new mind-body connection through neuromuscular exercises and breathing. Kiambu works in collaboration with many top allied healthcare professionals and knows when to refer clients out for the appropriate treatment when necessary. Kiambu is a teaching assistant for Erik Dalton and James Waslaski. He also teaches seminars on various massage techniques. Contact him for availability. |
